i had a friend build up a 340 engine. He sold the engine to me before he moved and now i cant find him. I forget what cam we decided to use onthe engine

is there a way to find out what cam was used without taking the engine all apart?i believe it was an aftermarket cam, but i cant be certain?

Hi, you can measure the lobe lift and compare to the factory specs - then you know if there´s an aftermarket cam inside. For more Info pull the plug at rhe rear of the engine, maybe there´s a identification (some numbers etc.) engraved.

Get a dial indicator and measure from the push rod.

A-MEN! And then while your at it, put a degree wheel on it and figure out the timing events. You can plug it into a computer program, like Desk Top Dyno and it'll spit out what the duration is (measure it all @ .050)
