I borrowed one of these 1/3 HP units. Its on a little stand and it has a large suction hose and a small bypass hose that goes into a can/bucket of paint. Its all motor with a little machined block that has the inlet and outlet ports on it. Anyways, this thing builds NO suction. I pulled the block apart and found it has a plastic diaphragm in there that only vibrates, no noticeable up and down movement. I took the block off and found that the eccentric is actually cycling a little pushrod about 1/4" stroke but it does not seem to make the diaphragm that it contacts move. Im stumped. Am I missing a spacer or something? The last user swore it worked fine when they put it in storage and I have no reason to believe they took it apart. Its full of clear oil under the diaphragm and seems to run fine, it just never creates any suction, and Im not even sure how it would generate 2800psi as the plastic diaphragm is made of a rigid plastic, not even flexible..Any house painter out there? My neighbor saw my F'n with this and wheeled over his big boy and I shot all the eves in about 20 minutes, love it! Would like to get this smaller unit working so I can shoot the rest of the house. His may not be available as he uses it on jobsites almost all the time. Thanks. This is the diaphragm service unit but I cant see this as the piston to build 2300 psi, its just plastic and the white seems to be captive between the pump body and the block....

Im leaning toward a bad check valve seat now as the liquid sitting on top of the (inlet) check valve is just sitting there quivering...

Is there a lever on it to switch to prime or spray? The one I have has one and it won't suck anything if not run in prime first.

yes, tried that. Thanks will look at it again tonight with a little down time I have from these crazy old house repairs...Hell of a way to spend 5 days of vacation...;-(

I have several of these units. The thing I have run in to on all of them is the diaphram that is behind the suction hose tends to hang up from sitting. No matter how I have cared for them they all have done it. Each of mine are older units but if they haven't changed all I had to do is remove the suction hose and push in on the diaphram with my ink pen and put the hose back on to get them to work. I have never had to tear one down and each of them are over 15 years old.

Im R&Ring the block right now, the suction hose diaphragm check valve is able to be cycled with a pen, check. Still nothing. Under the white diaphragm is case oil..is that correct? It looks like a piston under the white diaphragm that cycles but it doesnt touch anything, its 5mm short of anything. there is a white collar that looks like it should do something but its just a sleeve in there. It is as if I am missing a spacer between the piston and the white diaphragm if it even contacts the pump or is it all hydraulic pressure as the oil level does not exactly fill the piston cavity...Does your white diaphragm move when the motor is running, up and down slightly? I dont get this.

Success!!!!!! The F'n thing was low on hydraulic fluid! NOWHERE on the net or in the instructions says DICK about the fluid needing to be completely full...my model sits horizontally, bad design as the oil level in the case is UNDER the piston where as the model that superceded it sits vertically so the oil level in the case is ABOVE the piston. Slept on it and 0230 I woke up and said, "...no F'n ****! it has to be hydraulic related!..." took the reservoir cover off and fired it up vertically this morning and it burped and built suction... Bingo! Im so smart........it only took me 5 days to figure this out...:-)
