My (original?) \6 radiator looked better in the car than out. The local rebuild shop is quoting me $750 - $800 to rebuild or replace with copper.

I've read about the bad news, Chinese aluminum radiators and don't need an over engineered, high performance aluminum radiator for this little slant. It is a daily driver and I would like peace of what's left of my mind while cruising through Nevada in the summertime.

Is there a cost effective, reliably functioning replacement anyone could recommend?

Thanks for the help!

Thats a rip off big time! $150-250 to recore /redo a Brass radiator over here in So California. Do you have power steering or non power steering?

I'd check another shop. Cost me $300cdn to have my original 2 core rad redone with a 3 core. My core is north American made (Quebec I think), and of good quality. My rad guy said he wouldn't install an off shore core.

put it back under the hood and go.
Stock slantys with a direct drive fan hardly need a rad at all. In winter I used to completely block mine off for cabin heat. Some winters I even took the fan right off.
But in spring, I did have to pull the cardboard out.and by summer the 4-blade fan was back on.

My rad is circa 1980.
I had it rodded out in about 94.
Now, I just pinch the old tubes off and solder them up as needed. The top tank has several patches on it. I think slantys might be able to run air cooled for 8 or more months of the year; I mean with coolant in the jackets; at least mine might, lol.

I agree that's a lotta coin for a stinking rad.
But I get the Nevada reference, lol. I'd probably rent a car.

Power steering. Old radiator is an auto. Car is a 4spd.
Yup power steering makes it tight in there, but a champion will work but you need to fab up the brackets to push the radiator back into the core opening. No Biggie. I run Champion in my 67 Barracuda 9:5 CR Roller Cam 318 3.55 shift kit all year long never hits over 185

I have a chinkesium aluminum radiator in mine. Got it for 89 bucks off eBay on a scratch and dent sale. I normally warn against the chinkesium stuff, but I had to take a chance. I got a good one, thank goodness. Chances are in your favor you'll get a good one, but there's always that chance.

63/64 Radiators are different that 65/66 the early ones have a smaller opening where the radiator goes, that being said you can always drill holes to make a 65/66 radiator work but will compromise air flow a bit.

Did he quote you that price with a straight face?

Your local rebuild shop is trying to rip you off.

Almost bought used but ended up agreeing with the wife to buy new w/ "lifetime warranty". Whatever that would mean if we're on the road and it pukes.

Champion radiator. $220 delivered.
