Canadian 1971 Duster 340 4-Speed

Only one thing wrong with that pic: a V8 should not be trusted to stop on front drum brakes, discs are much more efficient and safer.
Very nice car though.
Nothing wrong with drum brakes, if you drive your car like it has drum brakes. This is what's on my Duster, and I, drive on the highways all the time at 120 km per hour, and have never had a stopping issue.

I ran a G/Gas 67 Camero 10.65 @ 130 mph in the early 70's with drum brakes. Hell every one ran drum brakes. Not my first choice now days, but it is doable.

Yes that's a good idea, but my first goal is to finish the car, then pass the inspection and run it legaly on the street. Disc brake would be a nice upgrade later.

Yep, it's always to know how to drive your car if you dont want problem with it !

Thank so for the info on the A88 decor group. Hey if you do find previous history and find the dumbass who cut a hole in the roof u need to ask what the hell were you thinking?

Yes, that's a question I would ask.. What a shame to cut the roof of that car.

That was all the rage back then... same with hacking the radio bezel/dash to put in a cassette deck!

As was said, back in the day that's was what everybody was doing. Remember these cars were just daily drivers and nobody ever thought the cars were going to be around 40 years later, nor did we think they would have any value.

Well said. We are not the same people we were when we were in our teens when these crude "Customizations" took place. Like most trends, they were cool at the time but now considered crass by most. Velvet interiors, tires that stuck out of the wheel wells, painting the axle and gas tank white, lace paint jobs with names of your car or saying on them. Cheap AM/FM cassette radios butchered into the dashboards with crackling cheap triaxle speakers and an equalizer hanging under the dash. You know what, they really were fun times!!!

I think i might know this car........
If i saw a detailed picture of the engine compartment, it would help. (if it hasn't been changed).
If it's the same car, I might know of where it was painted and where in B.C. it was, and who owned it then, with names if you want them.
And what it looked like before it was painted. It was painted in the mid '90s and it was a street car turned into a race car and then turned back.
I sold him some parts to change it back to original.
Any questions, p.m. me (start a conversation).
I would rather not discuss it on here.
Tom.

They certainly were fun times. I did notice, that you missed one big trend. Your name just above the drivers side outer door handle, and the girls name that you were "serious" about at the time went above the passenger side door handle. These were done by professional sign painters

I didn't forget. I just didn't stay with any one girl long enough to put her name on my car:lol:

Original John Petrie decal on the driver side of the Cowl Dash. I own that car since february 2015. Since this day I am doing intense search to find past owner/history of this car. Would be very nice if you know this car !!
