Ok I did something stupid, my fuel float screwed up but I figured I would pull the wires from the back of gauge to check for corrosion, ended up pulling some short of seilond. In order for me to get it back in I had to remove the colume clamp and plate in order to get my hand up far eough to put it back in. Well a thick shim fell out, I have no idea where it came from. thought everything was fine. But now I notice if I don't slam the gear shifter into park i will end up rolling. So anyone have an idea where the shim went or how to fix this problem???

Well I answered my own question again, guess I should have looked in the shop manual before I go and ask for help lol

The big spacer is a shim that goes in between where one of the three column bolts goes too. The reason that it is rolling in park is because the column is out of adjustment now and you have to put the shim back in and get the column at the right angle or it wont line up right. I had the same problem with my car but I have to slam it into drive.

Well I put the shim/spacer back in but the car still rolls. I also notice I can put it in drive and slid the gear shifter over to neutral and don't have to pull it towards me. Any idea how to fix it??

I was going to suggest the linkage that goes from your shifter to your tranny. There is an adjuster on the rod to the tranny and if it is too far one way, your tranny won't engage in park. You may put it in park with the shifter, but the tab on the tranny won't be far enough in park to engage, therefore slamming the shifter into park might just put that tab just far enough into park to stop it from rolling. Hope that made sense.

LOL - I actually thought this thread was about a car rolling away in a park - like the kind with trees and streams.
