LMAO @ "No 50's stuff" !

I'd say :

- "Nuggets" box set ( one hit wonder 1960's Garage / Psychedelic songs )

- mc5

- Parliament / Funk-a-Delic

- REAL Soul

- Obscure 60's / 70's Rock

You're right ; the whole 50's sound is overdone . Especially Elvis' yawn-factor songs !

Just hook up to XM and tune in to Classic Vinyl
OR better yet catch Andy Frost on Psychadelic Psunday on Q107 in Toronto.
Any weird 60's Psychadelic stuff goes good with musclecars.
Right now I'm listening to Death Walks Behind You by Atomic Rooster on the headphones

Joe Walsh- Ordinary, Average Guy (well, pretty much anything from Joe Walsh would be neat to hear)
Red Meat- Under the Wrench (I still have'nt been able to find this anywhere)
The Cars- Let the Good Times Roll
Just a start...

Silence.

My experience has found most car show DJ's to be obnoxious w/ their music choice. I'd rather just enjoy looking at the cars.

2 lane blacktop fan,so Doors moonlight drive. After that, good rock from mid sixties to mid seventies.

What, no love for the king? This one always takes me back to the Thursday night car shows during my High School years. And that was only 10-12 years ago. Terry Stafford's version is good too, but I prefer this one:

While the original was recorded in '55, this version was committed to vinyl in '72.

Here's one of the best car themed songs ever:

I grew up in the 60s-70s. I guess I'm the old one here. I have the Beach Boys, Jan and Dean and classic rock of the early 70's in the car. Steppen
Wolf, Blind Faith, Iron Butterfly. I even have the BeeGees early stuff. Before
the disco years, the good stuff. Call me weird. Don't care.

Here's a really underrated one
Blackfoot - Highway Song

Slightly more obscure
Diesel - Sausalito Summernights

FABO
Surfaris - Boss Barracuda

I opened our car shows with "Green Onions" by Booker T and the MG's. "Jack the Ripper" by Southern Comfort on the Skids was popular with the crowd too. And of course I had to play "Two Lane Blacktop" by Rob Zombie because it mentions a barracuda 68.

I almost forgot about the "Mopar To You" barracuda songs such as "Bite Bite Barracuda" and "Boss Barracuda". They are a little cheesy but fun.

Time to take a trip down Memory Lane. I picked up a 3-cd set several years ago titled "Legendary Hot Rod Hits" and it brought back sooo many memories from the glory days of muscle cars and cruisin' Whittier Blvd. in SoCal.
I'd love to hear any or all of these at a muscle car show. Feel free to hum along......

"Beep Beep" by The Playmates
"Fun, Fun, Fun" by The Beach Boys
"Mr. Eliminator" by Dick Dale & His Del-Tones
"King Of The Wheels" by The Bobby Fuller Four
"Bucket 'T'" by Jan & Dean
"Little Honda" by The Hondells (OK...it's a motorcycle)
"409" by The Beach Boys
"Three Window Coupe" by The Rip Chords
"Beach Buggy" by The Shutdowns
"Dead Man's Curve" by Jan & Dean
"Hot Rod Lincoln" by Charlie Ryan
"I Get Around" by The Beach Boys
"The Scavenger" by Dick Dale & His Del-Tones
"She Rides With Me" by Paul Petersen (my wife has a story about Paul Petersen)
"Drag City" by Jan & Dean
"Little Deuce Coupe" by The Beach Boys
"Squad Car" by Eddie & The Showmen
"Hey Little Cobra" by The Rip Chords
"Schlock Rod" by Jan & Dean
"Wheels" by The String-A-Longs
"The Ballad of Thunder Road" by Robert Mitchum (yeah, the actor)
"Shut Down" by The Beach Boys
"In His Car" by Robin Ward
"40 Miles of Bad Road" by Duane Eddy
"I Gotta Drive" by The Matadores
"Custom Machine" by Bruce & Terry
"G.T.O." by Ronny & The Daytonas
"Mag Wheels" by Gary Usher
"Dragster" by Johnny Fortune
and my favorite Mopar song
"The Little Old Lady From Pasadena" by Jan & Dean

I like it best when there's a variety of music from the '50's thru the '70's, not too loud and not a lot of yapping from a dj. It doesn't have to be all 'car' songs just good music.

One of my favorite car show songs. MMG
