I'm thinking about replacing the existing Carter Thermoquad carburetor on my '73 340. Does anyone have a recommendation for a new (modern) carb that would work well on this engine? The engine is entirely stock. Thanks in advance for your help.

I have an Edlebrock 600 on my .40 over 360. Runs well.

actually, thermobogs are awesome carbs! theres a guy on moparts.. demonsizzler (not sure if he posts here) who builds and
sells absolutly flawless TQ's for customers specific engines. and there cheap to boot. try looking him up.

stock as in stock cast iron intake?

only a spreadbore carb will bolt on directly....spreadbore is a thermoquad, quadaflush, and certain spreadbore model by holley...

carter 1406 is a standard bore...will need adapter to bolt on....or new intake manifold...

holley 3310 is a standard bore...also...

i love thermoquads...but...new parts???? a few are available...

i have a carter 1406 on my 73 340 duster...but i am using an eddy air gap intake...

I have a GM Qjet from Summit on a mild 318 also have a Holley 570 Avenger on another mild 318 both are very good and a big improvement over Carter/Edelbrock types especially in MPG.
