Maybe a stupid question but why do people at the drag strip have the two vent tubes on top of the carb hooked together with a rubber hose? Seen some have a hole at the top of the piece of hose where it arcs and some don't?

I used to use one piece of hose and put one end on each vent tube ...then slice a hole on the top...

Some guys either like to run higher fuel pressure and or set the bowl levels higher so under launch they don't suck air. The tube just extends the vent tubes so that extra fuel doesn't spill out.

Like said above.. you need to cut a hole in the top or your bowls wont vent.
