ok i just got this http://www.offyparts.com/popup_image.php/pID/209 intake.

it says to use stock 1bbl carbs on this . so i go to the part stores and no luck .

so i was woundering if any of you know where i could get 2 brand new or good rebuilt 1bbl carbs for this . its going on a 68 plymouth vailant . i dont care for high end stuff just working right . it has a kit to hook every thing up as long as they are stock carbs .

and a nother question .

i also got the offy headers 2 3's and they dont have the heat part for the carb. do i need to heat the carbs to make it run right ?
or can i just leave it alone . i have the metal know how to fab something up . but i dont really know **** when it come to fuel and intake stuff.

well the carbs required are webers, and they are EXPENSIVE, and i hope the intake came with the carb linkages. If your in a warm weather location, the heat provision will not matter, anthough mileage wil suffer untill the engine warms up.

I don't recommend that any drive their car when it's not fully warmed.
A friend has this 2 single offy and runs 2 1920 holley carbs off a regular old slant 6.
He lives in the high desert and runs no heat to the manifold.
His set up is in a 64 valiant ,ported/milled head, clifford dual header, hyperpak isky cam.

yes it has the linkage , i live in missouri thow for the weather part .

Just wondering but isn't that linkage for the early style 'throttle rod'?

Actually, that intake and linkage was originally designed for the 60-66 slants with the rotating rod linkage and uses a matching pair of carbs that utilized that linkage. If used on a 67 and up slant, you'll have to fabricate something to use the late model cable. If using an automatic trans, still more fabrication for the kick-down linkage. There are people who are using dual Webers, but again, the intake will have to be modified to accept the Webers. Hope this helps.

Given the quality of parts store rebuilt carbs, "no luck" generally means they had one on the shelf. If you have a choice between a parts store carb and one rebuilt by a mechanically inept teenager in Dad's basement, you'll be better off with the teenager's homemade rebuild. You might want to check SlantSixDan on slantsix.org (he also posts here from time to time) as he seems to have a good line on where to find replacement stock carbs.

There's a shop called Pierce Manifolds that sells a sort of adapter kit to put Webers on that manifold, too.

Actually, this manifold is set up to use 2 stock rod linkage Holley 1920 single barrel carburetors. It was originally made for '60-'66 slants that used the rod linkage for the accelerator pedal (A,B, and possibly C bodies). The linkage you get with the manifold is useless for anything else without modification. The deal breaker for me was all the work needed on the carbs (they are now flowing half as much air) to get them running right. Most people have seen them set up for twin Holley/Weber progressive 2 barrels from Proline Fuel and they were real proud of their work (expensive). Liked the idea though and after some thought, decided to try 1.9L Escort carbs which are progressive 2 barrels and sized right as far as jetting, etc.
It obviously wasn't an original idea since I was able to find www.stoveboltengineco.com who has new carbs with electric choke, heim joint linkage kits, manifold adapters, and air cleaners. The whole setup was around $300 plus shipping. www.cars.rasoenterprises.com has intake heat kits for header equipped slants that plumb into the heater hoses and is complete right down to the silicone hoses. There is enough flexibility in the linkage kit that you should be able to use a stock slant cable setup with some bracket bending as necessary. If you need the automatic kickdown, a Bouchillon or Lokar cable kit should fix that nicely. Try it, you'll like it.
