in the images of my 383 AVS, at the upper top there is a pressure relief of some sort, there is a spring and a ball in it but no visable outlet. my question is, the spring is visable and the ball is on top of the spring away from the opening in the brass retainer, is this the way it should be and if not, does one gently pry out the retainer and put the spring in first then the ball so it is blocking the hole in the retainer with spring pressure, it would seem that it is supposed to that way, and what is its purpose? thanks Gerry

I've never had that out of a carb. I'd have to look at one to see how mine are.

Thanks Jim, if you get a chance let me know, i guess there's a chance that the spring that is quite flimsy has let the ball pass through it, thus make the ball inoperative at sealing the hole for whatever it does.

Well i took the top off another AVS and the ball does sit on top of the spring away from the brass retainer, so the spring in mine is worn out or broken. their is a relief hole on the top by the air cleaner gasket, so this is some kind of vent. i guess i need to know if its a critical part, and if so, where do i get a replacement. thanks Gerry
