Hey all, piston choice question. I've been all over the site and this is what I've come up with regarding forced induction and pistons. 1st choice is forged. Second choice seems to be cast or hyper depending on the thread. Guys are running both cast and hyper with turbos and superchargers and getting results. My question is this: I have some free cast pistons which will give me a static comp ratio around 8.5:1. I will be using water/meth injection and higher octane fuel with megasquirt and a wideband O2. How likely is it that I'll blow holes in pistons? Do you hear detonation and its to late or can you get off the loud pedal asap and be ok? I planned on starting with a really conservative tune say 23 deg total and building it up carefully on a dyno until I start losing power and then taking that last degree out? Appreciate any advice.

If you even think you have a chance of running into a detonation issue, I would recommend forged.

Sounds like you are spending a bunch of money on this engine, pistons isn't the place to save a few hundred bucks.

Right, pistons aren't the place to save some money. I will have to work a week longer :crybaby:

I got about 5,000 miles on KB 403 hypers in my 340, redline is set at 6,500, 6000 rpms or a bit more is my daily habit all summer long. 3,500 to 4,000 on freeways for 15--20 mins a few times a month. No problems at all, has a great seal, engine temps never go over 200 degrees in 90 temps outside. No complaints at all, I had heard it ping a few times last fall, back the timing off a tad, its around 33 degrees locked out. The motor seems happy
