Casting date on a 340

My 1970 Dart swinger is cast dated 11-21-69 and the fender tag states it was built 5/18
Is this typical for 1970 darts with 340's ?
The VIN on the pad does match my VIN on the car

Motor was cast late in the year, November of 1969. Means it was meant for 1970 models cars. As far as the VIN, that I can't help you with. It does have the correct year block though.
 
One of Ma Mopars quirks was letting castings sit for 6 months or so to fully cool before final machining and assembly. The dates on your block and the build date on the car are close enough, especially when you consider that in 1970 dealers were screaming for every 340 A body they could get...

There are a lot of cases like yours, most were cast and built close but there are a fair amount like yours. My 71 demon 340 engine was cast 7/01/70 was assembled 11/16/70,
And then was installed in my demon 4/02/71, not normal but it did happen from time to time. Problem is nobody really knows why unless we find the guy who was around back then.. That was in charge of the engine plant.
 
were the engines cast in the USA and shipped to Canada for install when the cars were new?
My understanding is that every 1970 Dart Swinger 340 was made in Canada
 
Right there is another 71 demon with the casting, build, and SPD extremely close to what mine is. Maybe they lost the rack of engines for a few months
 
you should have another number on the block that is the engine assembly date. Casting date is only the date that the block was cast, it'd not the date that the engine was built.
