Cat Pics

Never had a cat before. Always a dog person. This guy showed up at our door 12 years ago.
He was cool, friendly, tough and loving. Unfortunately we had to put him down yesterday. Man that one hurt but we were lucky to have him!

That's the problem with pets, when you get one your happy but you are setting yourself up for the worst day of your life

thanks for giving him a loving home. they trust us to take care of them and sometimes it means we have to make that difficult decision.

Losing a pet is so hard. Beautiful cat.

You’re exactly right, only thing you can do is give them the best life possible.

That sucks, man.

We just lost my 15 year "little buddy".

I'm still not dealing with it well.
I agree, I don’t think you can ever get over the loss of a pet.

Heck I love animals more than I like most humans.

OK, here it is-

Last month we lost my little buddy of 15 years, Mr. Orange.
We have 10 cats, but some are special.
Mr O was a fighter from the day we got him battling a URI.
He did as that poem suggest about life, and arrived at home plate bumped and bruised, and exclaiming "what a ride"!
Before he was 1, a folding chair leaning against a wall fell on him, and he had a hitch in his step from then on.
In 2019, we almost lost a battle with ear mites resulting a "cauliflower" ear.
He developed CKD (chronic kidney disease) a couple years after that.
...and most recently developed diabetes.

Despite all that he was always by my side.
From his first minutes with us, if my bare foot was available, he would find a way to sit on it.
He did this until his last week.
If I was on a piece of furniture, he was beside me.
Always.
Towards they end, he liked to sleep in my arm pit area.
If I was sitting still, he literally never left my side.

The doctors never really got a handle on his diabetes, but I managed to do better, switching him from the long acting insulin to my 70/30 formula and that worked. Fortunately I'm on a sliding scale so I could spare a few units a day.
We ended up putting him on a sliding scale, too. In all my research, I've not come across that treatment for a cat.

He was also a water cat. If you were in the shower, he would jump in with you.
Frequently, he would ask for the tub water to be turned on.

He was also "The Ambassador"
He was the most even keeled cat I've ever known.
Always the first to greet a new arrival.
He never picked on any of them, but he didn't take any crap, either, frequently showing them "the paw".
Not a fight or even a swat, just a held high block. Most eventually got it-
Homey don't play that.
He would actually walk towards two cats if they were in a fight...and get in between them if possible.

I knew 15 years ago that his last day would be one of the most difficult days of my life.
...and it was.

He was a 100% innocent soul.

Rest in peace, my friend.

I miss you, little buddy.

Mr O and his brother Buff AKA Nougat. Totally different "personalities".

Last day. In his spot beside me.

Usual spot.

Better days. Look at that beautiful coat.
The light color actually had a somewhat metallic sheen to it.
Pics don't show that well.

Mr O and Valentine, my other "special" cat.

The foot thing.

I think this is my favorite.

OK, now back to our regularly scheduled programming.....
