Cerakote ready to spray ceramic coating

-
Too easy!! This stuff sprays like a rattle can with the detail gun. Very easy to shoot. I ran 20 psi on my gun. I’m sure I could go lower but this was my first time using this little detail gun. 1.8mm tip. 4oz cup.

Filled to 4oz. Had 1.5oz left over in the cup. One coat was plenty. This stuff goes a very long way. Dropping my pressure to 12-15psi would have saved a bit more.

Will see how it looks in the morning

Oh and got the transmission cooler lines installed today too

Go for it dudes. So simple a caveman can do it. Seriously.

NICE !!

Check it this morning and it still looks great. Once I finish the H-pipe section I can start installation. I’m thinking I might do the brand new tti headpipes as well since I know they will rust eventually. I fell like this stuff should hold up well. Cerakote might end up being my go to for manifolds and engines if I can get the right shade of cast iron and Chrysler red/orange/turquoise.

I’ll report back after assembling the exhaust and see how scratch resistant it is.

Sorry forgot to update. Turned out nice. Will see how everything holds up after running the car a while.

Notice the tti headpipes. Almosted painted them to match but didn’t at this time.

What’s really cool is they have so many different colors to choose from. The firearms guys go crazy for this product. I can see why. It sprays like nothing else. They are serious when they say coverage in one coat. Seems like it has a lot of solids too. Cleans up easy with acetone. Another nice thing is no mixing with reducers etc.

Have not exposed it to that yet. I have some oversprayed on masking tape I could test.

I run Dot 5 in my vehicles. Doubt it does much. I can test the gasoline though.

I haven't looked personally but know NIC / Prismatic (who makes Cerakote) has all kinds of Material Safety Data and Test Sheets for every product. They probably have one for each Cerakote too. NICIndustries.com

So according to their site its basically impervious to gasoline, brake spray, a whole bunch of different thinners, but they didn't test it with brake fluid. (Or it did so badly they didn't want to advertise! :D)

Exactly how clean do u have to get parts to use this stuff, perfect ?

Once it's on there, it's ON THERE Bob. I don't even handle washed parts without gloves afterwards (oils in your skin can leave fingerprints). Consider the Cerakote as THE last thing your bare metal will ever have on it and plan accordingly. Like all metal finishing, prep is 98% of a great job.

Clean clean clean in my opinion. Not hard to do and doesn’t take up too much time to do it right. You can see how I did my exhaust pipes which most people will never see. I used a 40 grit disk on a grinder mainly because it was fast and easy. 80 grit is what I originally planned but didn’t have a disc on hand. Used a respirator as well. Aluminized coating is bad on the lungs. I wasn’t too worried about sanding scratches and I wanted to see how well this product filled the scratches. I used a quality wax and grease remover and let it gas off for an hour. Similar to when I paint cars.

Needless to say I’m very impressed overall. This stuff is VERY high build. As said before, one coat is all you need. I look forward to trying out their clear-coats on buffed aluminum. Apparently they have one that only requires Dawn dish soap for prep after polishing.

One more thing. I’ll order a 4oz tester for when I clear coat my trim pieces. I can’t see paying 3-4K to have all my trim, grills and sail panel brite dipped. I think this is a great alternative.

You should look online and see how they are painting rifles, handguns and knives. Impressive. If it can handle explosions from a high powered rifle it’s gotta be tough
