Cheap turbo head count

Hey all been a while since i posted but had an interesting question. Forgive me if it'sbeen aasked already. How many of you have turboed your cars on the cheap DIY idea and have had great results and lasted a while to boot?
 
I'm just starting to "wake up and stretch" on this idea, bought meself a couple ' turbo books

I'm interested in anyones experiences but I do agree the biggest bunch should come from the slant guys. I think charlie s has been doing it since the 70s I believe. Dunno how much trouble he had out of it over the years though. Mine has less than a grand in it so far. 500 to 600 I think. The hoses and fittings are what killed me. All stainless line and AN fittings.
 
I found a kit on eBay here not long ago that came with every thing (except manifolds) and had the gt45 turbo for under a grand, even had a small dress up kit for radiator, heater hoses and some other misc stuff that wasn't "nessasery" (sp) but was still nice and cheap.
