Alright so it seems like the more work i do on my Dart, the tighter and tighter the budget gets.
What are the cheapest ways to increase power on a 225 slant six?

Giggle gas, I saw a guy who picked up almost 2 seconds and 20 mph in the 1/4 with a 125 horse kit. Can find them for about 300 for a kit now.

Thats not bad. Only thing is, i want something that gives me constant power. Like for example a CAM, which i cannot afford since they are all like 500+

My opinion: increase compression by milling the head. It is a little labor intensive, but the "best bang for the buck". It is the only mod that does not have a down side. Increases power and fuel economy, both. Of course, while the head is off, you might want to consider a valve job, depending on condition of the head. If you have a valve job done, you might want to consider oversize valves. And so forth and so forth. That is what is called project creep. I am serious about milling the head if you are limited on what you can do.

PS: you can buy a cam for Between $75 for a regrind, and $140 for new. But a cam without compression increase is a waste of money.

Headers, a tune up, and make sure your tires have the correct pressure. Get the junk out of the trunk.

Head work. Get a valve job and mill it .100, then blend the bowls and clean up the runners at home for free. Slap a SuperSix intake on that beeyotch (there's an intake and carb on ebay right now for $200) and you'll be surprised at how it wakes that 225 up.

The best part is that if you get a spare head (ebay, junkyard, pay shipping and I'll give you one for free), you can drive your car while you get the work done. Then just bolt it all on. You'll still have a bone stock bottom end and your original head to do a kick-*** high-budget build when you get your coffers full.

Then you'll want to talk to Charlie_S or 66aCuda, (these two fellas really took the time to explain some good theory and offer tips when I got into slants). There are a few more guys who can help out and who make me look like a blind, one-armed /6 retard. slantsixdan comes off as a condescending butt nugget sometimes, but that guy really knows alot, especially little details that were probably only put into print once. Seriously, he's like some kind of savant or something.

These guys will help you go fast, a bit at a time.

See?

Dang, Charlie, you beat me to the punch.

Well the only thing is, would i be better off grabbing a smallblock or just stick with the slant 6?

Think about it, man: you're not gonna be satisfied with a stock small block. You're going to wanna make that faster, too. When you get finished spending all that coin and dust some clown in a Rustclang at the strip, you'll have done it with a V8, and that's cool, but imagine building a 225, saving a whole $h!+-ton of jack and seeing the look on the other guy's face when, after you blow his doors off, you pop the hood to reveal a slant 6.

besides, V8 swaps can be prohibitively expensive if you're on a tight budget.

cheapest on a slant? nothing except stock.
besides ignition and swapping on a 2brl....headers/better carb/cam/head work all costs a decent amount.

Cheap would be to focus on the tune and getting it 'tits on a ritz'

I've heard the ricer guys say you get 100hp by adding those cool graphic stickers to the side. And if you get a fart can muffler thats another 150hp easy...

i bought a brand new custom cam for 125 and matching springs for 50...

wouldnt i need forged pistons for that?

depends how much boost... ive seen a guy with a STOCK stant run 13's with just a turbo and fuel upgrades

if your trying to say that its cheaper to build a slant than a small block im going to have to say false...

LMFAO
thats stuff i hear from the idiots at my school all the time.

"oh i added a k&n cold air kit and now my car has 174 more horsepower"

YEAH okay!

Yup exactly, if you look at a performance parts add for new cars vs old cars the old car add actually has performance parts as opposed to a new car performance part ad is only for aesthetic reasons like "cool" shifter knobs and colored wire covers and crap like that.... Damn rice burners

This is why i want my dart to be fast. Its going to be a sleeper so i can destroy those ricers. On the strip, and on the street(dnt tell the cops ;) )
