Cheetah valve body... Throw away spring?

I am installing a new Turbo Action Pro street valve body for my A999.
Pro-street manual/automatic.

I already did a non lockup-conversion. Just finishing up with the final piece of the puzzle.

However the instructions are telling to me remove the spring for the accumulator. This is throwing some flags, isn't this needed for 1-2 shifts? I did some searching and I'm getting a lot of yea's and nay's but nothing definite.

Anyone who is a transmission guru here? I'm curious of your folks input on this.
 
Removing the spring will give a sharper quicker application of second gear.
On the other side of the coin, it's harder on internals like planetary gears and such because of that.
I left mine out and have a nice super quick 1-2 shift with zero hesitation between 1st letting go and second taking hold.
I also have about a 2000 stall, but I have real high gears and on occasion accidentaly get a little second gear bark without trying.
Some people use a stronger spring so it ends up kind of in the middle.

I'm not saying you should do either one, but just giving you some pros and cons.
 
ive never rebuilt one but my trans guy has always used a blocker rod.ill ask him pros and cons
 
When you use a valve body such as the Cheetah you used they figure your after ultimate street performance so that's why they say to toss the spring. Remember this, no matter what the factory used when they built an engine, trans, rearend, whatever, if your modifying it with someone else's part you should generally do what they recommend. After all they re-designed things to work differently than the factory meant it for.
 
Tossing the acc. spring is common,and combined w/ bumping up the main line and
throttle pressures is a popular "non-shift kit" improvement mod. Nothing to worry
about,the accumulator is there to provide a "comfortable" shift for everyday drivers.
Did you get a cheetah for that?The spring slows the chamber fill rate,no spring and
the fluid fills & "slams" the piston in the chamber,blocker rod prevents piston from
moving at all.
This has been covered by Mopar Action mag. as well as others.I like when my car
barks,catches scratch,kills a squirrel,.....:D
 
Well, I did install a high performance acc. spring, I mean this thing is like 3 times stiffer than the factory one. Is this alright? Or just toss it?
 
I've tossed a few accumulator springs in my time. Years ago, A, or should I say THE, local mopar man had them sitting on a small ledge above his sliding shop door like birds on a wire. Must have been 30 of them. A slug that holds that piston in opposite position or limiting the piston travel might be a smarter option. I'm no trans guru. A different spring pressure calculated against system fluid pressure is way over my head.
In the end, your paperwork states toss it, that's the plan no matter how strong the spring is.
 
pick up the phone tomorrow morning call Turbo Action and tell them what valve body you got...I bet you get the correct answer from the people who know....
