So my "Bessey" vice gave up the ghost today.
I guess I got it at Horrible Freight or Northern Offshore Handyman.
It lasted about 10 years.
I guess I was lucky.

I had one break like that, replaced it with a Wilton, no troubles since.

Bessey name shouldn`t even be allowed to be put on that vice
Like all other good manufactures, once they offshored to Asia, they turn to ****.
I bought some nice Bessey bar clamps still made in Germany, nothing else compares.

I did that with a brand new one once. Don't make 'em like they used to!

Most vises these days are made for people who don't know which end of a hammer to hold. You did good to get 10 years out of it.

Heck, even Wiltons aren't indestructible. This guy has a few videos putting vises to the test --

I must be lucky, and or, a happy camper with the bench vice that i purchased at Harbor Freight, ever since I've been in this house, 14 years now.
I beat on that thing all the time in the way that i remove the bushing shell, from the shaft, on the Mopar car, lower control arms that i rebuild.
I"ll keep my fingers crossed, that i won't kill it. lol.

I lucked into an old Wilton years ago from an estate sale.. I need to build a stand for it to use more often

Its really nice to have a vise outside the shop. Heating things seem so much safer too. Doesn't stink up the shop.

Back in April I broke my Grandpa's 1940's vice.
I was trying to take off a jet ski's prop.
