Chrome removal from Bumper

-
Chrome is plated onto, in this case a bumper. I don't remember seeing this process, de chroming, at a plating shop. I'd figure with electrolysis, the first thing to come off easily would be rust. For an overall view, when the chrome comes off, there are multiple layers of copper and nickel that act as body filler. Whatever method you choose to remove the chrome, those body fillers will come off too. That's a lot of prep work to get the bumper ready for paint. Since you only want to paint the bumper and are not looking for weight reduction, I'd spot blast the rust, scuff the bumper(220, 280 or 320) well and epoxy prime, bondo and shot your color.
