is there a clearcoat made that i can mix into say a Tremclad type rust paint to make it more durable and resist harsh elements better .

I painted a 1968 Coronet R/T in the 80's with an ultra-high gloss urethane topcoat from NAPA Martin paint. It got so hard it took a bit to water sand it all nice and flat.

Tremclad is an Alkyd Enamel (Synthetic Enamel) Paint.

This 5star hardener is made to work with Synthetic Enamel Paint.

Rustoleum equipment enamel is also a synthetic enamel paint.

Basecoat Clearcoats are chemically different paints and will probably curdle the Tremclad if you mix the 2 together.

I use the 5 Star Hardener with John Deere Medium Gloss Equipment Enamel Paint with great success for under body coatings, frames, and iron fabrication projects.

Dries fast with the hardener and is a tough finish when cured.

I used enamel hardener with the hammered Rustoleum paint on my roll cage. It made the paint quite a bit harder, shinier and it dried much quicker. No idea how it would do in the elements though. For that, I'd probably spring for some cheap 2k automotive grade stuff.

I’ve mixed the hardner from tractor supply with oil based and automotive enamels with success. Dry time is less than half and hardness has gone up quite a bit.

I painted my railings with Rustoleum and didn't want to wait 2 days so that was the 1st time I did the hardener trick. Then my blue cabinets to red next.
