Clutch fan sizes, part numbers, etc.

Hi guys,

Does anyone know the correct part number, size, etc., for the clutch fan that originally came on the 1975-76 Dart 360 Sports? The wife and I both have '75 Darts, hers is a 340, mine is a 360, both currently have fixed fans, no shrouds. I have a friend close by who gave me what he thought was the right one, though neither of us knew for sure, but its part number is 3462186 which is a 20" 7 blade, which I found fits B, C, F, and R bodies, at least according to a few eBay ads. I *THINK* the A bodies had a 17 or 18 inch fan, right? I can't seem to find a definite part number.

If the shaft is short enough to fit between the water pump and radiator, is there a downside to using a 20" fan? Her radiator is currently a 22", mine's a 26". I'll be building shrouds to fit whatever fans will work. My buddy has several other fans lying about but I didn't inspect what he had, just took the first one he put in the bed of my truck when I picked up some other parts yesterday.

Editing to add: both will eventually have the air conditioning restored.

I do not have any fans but I do have the clutch for the fan. One of these went on my 74 dart with a 360 in it with out any problems.
These are brand new.

if you're building shrouds, then just use what you've got. there's not really a down side to the larger fan.

just check for fan tip clearance on the top hose of the radiator and if you have an automatic the trans cooler lines.

Ah, good points. I figured there was some reason the A bodies had a different size than others, but wasn't sure. And...did the slant 6 have a different fan than the V8? Questions, questions.

the slant fans are likely different due to space limitations. somebody here would certainly know the granular details.

i've long run clutch fans off of later A's as well as F,M & J bodies without nary a problem.

the only problem i could see with a 20" unit is clearance for either the hose/trans lines or no room to get a shroud in there. but that may be a non-issue with your set up seeing as you're later bodystyle with different radiator-- my experience lies mainly with the earlier stuff.

I found the part number on the fan blades, but not on the clutch itself. Any idea where it's located?

If the A bodies had 20 inch fans and so did the B bodies (like the one I have), any idea what their difference are?

Number was stenciled on fan clutch when new but usually faded away after a couple of years.
You would probably need to have both fan blades to know the difference.
3462149 used fan blades are not that hard to find.
