A friend of mine is looking at purchasing a 70 Swinger

340 4 speed car.

the clutch is really hard to press down as indicated by the mechanic

who checked out the car

what could cause this and what would be the remedy for this problem?

It might be missing the over spring on the clutch pedal linkage inside the car. It helps hold the clutch down when the pedal is against the floor. The Z bar might need a rebuild kit and lube.

Like in the other post…… If it is a performance style Borg & Beck (3 finger) clutch, the clutch will be stiff or very stiff.

If the clutch is functioning properly (other than being stiff) your option is a clutch replacement. Go with a diaphragm style, Centerforce is one commonly recommended on here.

Its either that or he is used to new cars with hydraulic clutches. My 70 Darts clutch is a lot harder to push down then my 05 Neons.
