Clutch style fan?

-
I can't remember exactly but the e-fan I have moves over 3500 CFM and it still lacked in keeping the motor cool enough. One thing to make note of is the air passing through the rad at speed with a e-fan goes everywhere.... through the fan, around the fan, sides of the rad. With a shroud the air is "funneled" directly on the block of the engine. A shroud plays a big role in engine cooling. I used to be a non believer that the shroud was kind of waste money but no longer. I really believe that a e- fan mounted as a puller centered in a shroud would be better.

As far as e-fans go, the best unit out there IMO is the 2 speed fan for the dodge viper. I have not had a problem since installing that.

Just get a hefty relay for it.

I always had problems with a viscous clutch fan. I got rid of it altogether.

That Looks just exactly like mine. It's the thermostatic type like I talked about earlier.

You got a shroud it'll fit in? I think my A-body shroud is only 18" if I remember right.

Don't have a shroud yet, seeing this is 19.1/2", that may be a problem, but spectra makes a 1/2 shroud out of aluminum, i may have to get creative & fab up something.

that fan may not clear, i had one on my 71 340 def to big if you have a shroud. i had a 4 core rad so maybe it will be ok on yours.

Just looked at the PAW catalog & they list 17", 18", 19", & 20" Derale universal clutch fans (just the fan). The description also mentions a 15" fan but I didn't see it listed. Projected width 2 3/16".

mullinax, what fan did you buy that moves 3500 cfm?

I run a 16" that flows 2950 cfm and it works great...I'll never run a belt driven fan again.
Hot cam, I live in Florida and can idle all day.
It's mounted in a custom aluminum shroud and has a thermostat to turn it on and off. When that thing comes on it's one incredible heat wave!

This is the only "clutch" fan i found, the others were flex fans

I downloaded their catalog day before yesterday. The fans are in the "Cooling System" download on catalog page number 498 (pg 9 of the pdf doc). Looks like they might have their pics mixed up though. I think they got the pics for standard rotation & reverse rotation switched.

Derale part numbers

DER-17117...17"
DER-17118...18"
DER-17119...19"
DER-17120...20"

Put these numbers in the search box & you should get the fans to come up. I tried it with the 17" & it worked.
