Well I need to make a decision: I have a B&M "Hammer" shifter like this:

So my question is: Should I keep things "simple" by retaining the column shifter.

Or use the Hammer shifter, and wrestle with the super long cable they gave me as it is a tight fit.

I have a pretty hopped up 360 with a rebuilt A999 with a TF2 kit.
Is there any benefit to using one or the other, is it going make a difference performance-wise?

How are you going to drive it? Race it or just cruise it? Or a little of some and a lot of another? It's hard to answer a question when very little information of the intended use is given.

A shifter only makes a car faster because it can help you not miss a gear. Accidentally shifting into neutral at high rpm is pretty hard on an engine so a positive action shifter can conceivably save your engine. Just something else to ponder

I have a column shifter in my Dart and can't wait to get my B&M shifter in the car! The only problem I had is that the shifter is to low with the bench seat, but I am building a platform for the shifter to sit on so it is in the right position.

Mainly street driving with an occasional visit to the track. Let's say about 10 to 15% of it will spend its time on the track.

Any track time IMO would benefit from the ratchet shifter. I know their a pain to route the cable but you'll love it when you get it in plus like I said it could eliminate an accidental shift into neutral when racing.

I would leave it with the column shifter.
I've never been a fan of floor shifters or consoles for that matter in A-Bodies.
Only 4 speeds should be on the floor!
jmho.

I plan on using the factory console with an aftermarket shifter.

I removed the column shift and built a B&M Quicksilver into the console. Mine has a full manual valve body and I love it. I relocated the console so the shifter would be in a comfortable position. It took me a couple of tries to route the cable past the headers so it wouldn't cease up after a while.
