The alternator is worse, you could make an argument that most will run headers, but no alternator, unless you change the brackets and get a longer belt or run a smaller one.
I didn't seem to have any issues with the alternator. It's been installed since the build was completed. Seems to fit fine. Not sure why there's an issue with mounting an alternator. Is it the bolt holes for the bracket?

I just downloaded the installation instructions for the 60179 heads. Now I don't think I missed it when I purchased mine several years ago, but it mentions that the drivers side manifold #2863553 doesn't fit. I don't see how I could have missed that. I was very studious about checking the fitment of all the parts.
 
I should explain why I don't want headers. It took me a while to locate a decent set of factory hi-po manifolds. I was fortunate enough to locate a set at a swap meet for $275.00. Needed a hole brazed over, but other than that, they were in good condition. I also have a TTI exhaust system for the manifolds. That's about $800.00 just in the exhaust system. I looked at headers, but I really don't like the ones designed to run under the steering linkage, and any other headers were just too expensive.
If there are any header manufacturers that make headers that exit in the same location as the manifolds, I would be happy to look into that.
 
I find a steeper gear is easier to control. When a 3:23 starts spinning it can almost take divine intervention to stop it, but 4:10 you just don’t get the wheel speed which makes it easier to peddle it.

You could do me and the questioner a small favor if you don’t mind so much? What piston/oversize? Where it sits in the hole, head gasket dimensions, cylinder head cc amount and valves used.

This is not calling you out on it but just a simple request of and for information. To help the questioner and others out there doing or thinking of doing the same thing.

Well actually, I was curious about how he achieved that kind of compression with flat top pistons. Not that I don't believe him, I just am curious if he's using basically the same parts as I am. I would like to know what was the difference and if it's something I can change.

Well, you can get with an on-line compression calculator. Know the specifics of the parts that have the inputs values, like a head gasket. You’ll need to know how thick it is compressed and how big the bore is on the gasket. An all the other parts. No guessing. Especially, with a piston sits in the cylinder bore relative to the deck. If the piston has 6cc’s sort of valve relief area, you can simply add that to the cylinder head cc amount.

Once you have everything imputed, you can go back and make changes. Like a thicker head gasket or piston height. It gets a little tricky with a domed piston.

I used the cr calculator that you forwarded. Inputting the information that I have, it says that the cr is 10.5 to 1.

Now you can kind of guess at what GEO did. He said his was 10.62.
 
When i built my 2nt 340 i used forged stock pistons (TRW's) i did all the cc of combustion chambers pistons valve reliefs.(two valve reliefs)
my "stock" 10.5 motor was 9.4:1! i check and double checked it with total disbelief.
At the time you had a choice of stock (10.5) piston and dome pistons 11.5 so i got the spec's on the dome piston......they came out to be 11.4...................so a 9.4 compression i had to deal with.......It ran really good with stock X heads.
