the previous owner had hack this top plate. first I epoxied a small piece of plastic where the ash tray ends. then epoxied a piece of stainless where the shifter goes. did some bodywork and wrapped it up with veneer and varnish. ended up looking ok so I thought I would share with pictures.

Nice Work. It looks great! I did nearly the exact thing on mine, when i switched to a aftermarket shifter under console. I used 3M vinyl wrap, and that same stick down chrome trim… It sure feels good saving the $ a new top plate costs…
 
once I finished with the console I had all this veneer left over so I moved along to the dash. here is the before and after
 
WOW. That looks fantastic! Very nice. My have to try something like that on mine
