Convert torsion hood springs?

Has anyone converted torsion spring hood hinges to a later spring style? I have a 66 dart, it looks doable. Any suggestions?

No, but hood struts have been done before! Search.

If I were going to mess with converting it to anything, I'd use a set of gas struts like new cars have instead of springs. Should be a pretty simple conversion, you'd just have to do a little homework (math! uke on the weight of the hood, length of the struts and mounting location.

Actually I did do a search, but came up empty. Thats why I posted. After I posted I saw this http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=24990 on the bottom of the page under similar threads. I thinking about something like this thread.

I thought about struts, but i'm thinking that they would be in the way when you have to work on the car.
