New to the Dodge Dart. Need help with a couple things please. 1974 Dodge Dart slant 6 automatic. Question 1. Which transmission do I have? Has a leak gotta change the pan gasket.
Question 2. Speedometer buzzing and jumping around. Anybody got a good fix on that? Just some dry lube or is it usually the cable or is the speedo shot? Works great most of the time but sometimes it gets angry.

Could be a 904 or 727. If you took a picture of the pan we can tell you. I would put another cable in it.

Not sure on the tranny, But As for the speedometer issue, 1st try removing, cleaning and lubing the cable. It may be dry or varnished and sticking inside the housing.
If it still goes crazy, it may be the speedo head.

Thank you for the responses compliments and link. It’s in pretty good shape. Kinda has a mind of its own. Idles good sometimes and not others. Starts right up when cold with a couple pumps but have to hold it to the floor and cross your fingers when it’s warm. Seems like it loads up sometimes. Will run fine going down the road then want to die at a light. Put it in neutral and it’ll idle just fine. Other times runs great the whole trip with no problems. Been sitting was hoping it would blow itself out not sure if it will.

They were known for carburetor problems. Probably needs rebuilt. Also could be a vacuum leak.

Put some gumout in the gas tank and see if it cleans it out. Or as said maybe vacuum hose or leak or PVC valve.Or carb.

With the carb acting like that in the heat, it sounds like a lack of gasoline getting into the cylinders. How well do you know carbs? As in can you rebuild it. The fun out idea is a good one to possibly help. The insides probably, more than likely have varnish constricting the passage ways. This creating a lean condition that is amplified when hot.

Did you tinker with anything?
How’s many turns out is the idle screw?
You can try a half or full rotation out to allow more fuel through the carb at idle.

Between the idle screw rotation and the gum out, you should be able to get somewhere. It may only be inches needed for the full foot distance but some is better than none. It’s a place to start.

Nice ride.
