Crank cover

Hi I have a 72 340 I'm putting together. There is a cover that bolts to 4 of the main bolts does anyone know why. Is it better with or without. The 318's I've done don't have it.

if it bolted to the main caps or sandwiches between the block and oil pan then, yes,
its an windage tray, keeps oil from splashing up and hitting the crank

It is a windage tray used to keep the crank for churning the oil into a foamy mess, it is a great addition and can help free up some horsepower. Keep it for sure!

It is a windage tray, and I recommend using it.

X10 use it. Its a good thing.

X's2 on it's useage. Open the tabs up a bit to let oil out faster.
