crankshaft gear issue

I was assembling my magnum and putting a comp 2103 timing chain kit on and the crank gear slides right on and I checked and it has slack on the keyway and slack on the bore of it has anyone had this prob ??? what should I do here?? I know the balancer is going to tighten it down but it seams to me that it could have issues. Everybody chime in and give some input please.

do you mean the fit up is sloppy or just that it seemed to go on without much effort?

how's the old gear fit?
 
If the slack is in the sprocket keyway AND the sprocket fits loosely on the crank, the sprocket is very likely cracked at one corner of the keyway. I would inspect it with a magnifying glass.
 
Get a Rollmaster set. We had the same issue with a comp bottom sprocket on a different engine SB Chevy . The customer bought the timing set. We tried a rollmaster that was here for a different engine and it was snug enough we could not push it on by hand without some force. So it was not the crank.

Hopefully these parts will start to be made in the USA again after Jan. 20.

You don't want to install anything that is loose on the chain set. They do make different length chain sets. What ever you do do not use a tensioner. They were designed for the mopar 6 cyls when the had an issue with chain slack to quiet the rattle. They only take out the slack on the loose side. The pull side of the chain will still be to long and just stretch even more throwing out the cam timing

My race engine had a Rollmaster and we will reuse it on one of our stock engines . It was as tight as the day we put it on 8 years ago

thats what I wanted to hear or rather I didn't want to hear lol I guess i'll have to get a rollmaster cause I got these parts from performance inj equipment when I bought the heads and won't deal with him anymore over a parts issue. It seems that now out of the whole top end I got from him the only parts that I could use was the heads and now I'm wondering about them. Thanx 4 your advice .

it has slop in the gear bore and slop in the turning of the keyway and I know no matter how tight I get the balancer at some point that will be a harmonics issue. Thanks for the reply

yes I'm figuring either way I'm screwed and yes it has slack enough both ways. thanks for the reply

my question was if both the new sprocket and old sprocket were equally as sloppy then it may be the crank that's out of spec.

either way, it should be fairly snug fit on there.

Sorry I tried to answer to many at a time but yes sir I had to use my puller to get it off.

had to use my puller for old gear off and I/ can slide it on with no resistance and after it is in place it has bore slop and keyway slop

I checked after your post had spotlight and mag couldn't find anything.
