On forged crankshafts, is there a need to have the connecting rod and crank main journals hardened if they are ground to true up the journal? Same question if you offset grind the rod journal to a smaller size to increase stroke and use a small block chevy rod?

............Some ppl do it, my buddy had his ground .011 thou and chromed the extra .001........for a .010 under crank...i have to say that it sure looked purdy...personally not needed on a stock to mild build......kim....

Depends on how far you cut, and what you're doing. I'd suggest you price nitriding the journals before you spend on the welding/offset grinding, or whatever. You may find it more to your advantage to just by a new crank that's ready to run and stronger.
