Custom center console!!

-
wow!

I was gonna say if you had a wood grain dash get some nice veneer to put on the top to run through the center, but then i scrolled down and was very impressed with the way it looks!

Good work

Steve

I bet if you liked building it you would like it even more building me one and me paying for it ..throw that idea around in your head .

Great job man !

What would you change if your were now starting to build version B ?

Is the arm rest forward enough for good support ?

You can start building them for other folks, how much unfinished version ?

I like it too. The arm rest top might be a bit longer and or shifted forward as someone else suggested. Buyer could add a lighter well for radar detecter or whatever so to leave the ashtrray closed. Thats my favorite part of the factory console. I wish the factory console had a light in the storage bin. Sure the dome light illuminates for most but not in a convertible.

wow.. lots of good feedback. There are way to many questions for me to answer but I'll give it a try.

Measurements are coming soon, I have to take it out for some final touches and will take them then.

As for covering it in this or that.. well that's up to you ;)

The armrest could be a little more toward the front of the car, but I didn't want to separate the cabin that much, after all the center console should not impede the passenger from "leaning over" :snakeman: bow chicka wow wow.... although the thought had crossed my mind for a "bat mobile" motif cockpit ...but I digress

For version B I would probably do something in the front like another storage bin or gauges or disco ball or flux capacitor or something cool, almost anything would be better than blank fabric...but for now there is a 50watt amp stuffed under there

I will be adding a power port to it as the power port in the ashtray opening will be used for the electric trunk release button, but still not sure what I'd use the power port for. oh maybe the disco ball :toothy10:

Another thing I did notice is that it needs another support in the middle that follows the contour of the floor. It moves a little even after the mounts I put in.

All in all I think it flows well with the color and angles of the existing lines of the dash and things.... I know I need to redo the front seats and the gauges.... :bootysha:

almost forgot the pics, the cup holder is very similar to the one I used..just cut it up and make a hole... :toothy10:

Trade the disco ball for a coffee maker in mine. Junior wants the LCD there :)
seriously though... We could use the OEM console bracket or modified version of ? A console like that increases the popularity of column shift and bucket seats.

Man it looks so awesome. I want one :). after my body work is done though :(. So what kind of buckets are those that you have in there .

That is some pretty sweet skills put to work there.

Do I see a lucrative FABO member side business venture happening here or what?

I don't know what you do for a living, but you could make some extra money building these for members, well as long as you don't go crazy on pricing like Rocky Mountain dash's did.

i agree, great job! from the looks of it, it looks like it matches your interior, ie the door panels, so i guess thats why you chose the material. I like the tweed look. Awsome

within reason i know id order one ..also while im here ...what car are those buckets out of //just curious and did they bolt in easy enough

could we get a shot of the whole interior? I saw a bit of the door panels in one picture, but it would be nice to see how the entire interior looks at once.

oh man idea light came on. Strip down some old seperating door panles and use the templeted vynil on it !!!

maybe once my car is done I'll start making them, but for now u'll have to settle for the plans/measurements..and besides the thing is ugly underneath, if I was to sell them it would have to be a TRUE bolt in piece... as for the seats 99-00 dodge avenger, and yep, they bolt right in *** :angry7: (after 10hrs of making brackets and spacing them correctly and then using the driver side as templates and having to cut 2 of the passenger mounts out after realizing that the trans hump is closer to the passenger side than the drivers side.....:angry7::angry7::angry7: ) I have heard that neon seats fit but don't quote me on that..

I didn't have a set of factory brackets to mock up with or I would have built the console around them. Probably would have been less trouble in the long run as "someday" I want to move to floor shift.
I've spent tons of trips to the local yards looking for readily available "stuff" that could be slightly modified to fit our abodies, but whenever I find something I really like it doesn't fall into the "slightly modifiable" category (see seats)

Again, Thanks for all of the kudos. It's nice to do something not stock and have the abody fans like it.

Sure can, here is some blatant disregard of server harddrive space...muuuhahahaha
