Well, I replaced the sparkplug and put on a whole new set of wires and distributor cap.
Fired her up and got constant skips, still on #8 - not in any clear pattern. It IS firing but not consistently: I can hear the bumping in the exhaust. Once it stops raining, I'll get back out there and see about any vacuum from the breather.
Also - it's true that I will be switching heads and cam but not just yet. I only get to work on the car for a few hours on weekends. Gotta get all parts in place and ready to go before she is out of commission for several weeks and I'd love to be able to drive her in the meantime (on all eight cylinders!).
