Won't the heat riser passage just burn through?

Only if you don't deal with the other related mod - either freezing the heat riser valve in place open, or doing away with it and welding up the holes... which would be my preference.

I forgot about all that, I've cheated those problems out with headers...
 
The heat should not bother your intake. I went to a adapted bolt angle Performer on my 65 after I busted the stock 4bbl in half torquing it down on a hidden block locator pin. :BangHead: The Performer felt better to me down low and I didnt notice any difference up top. That 273/4 was a tight little motor, it just seemed to keep revving! IIRC the single plane 4bbl intake was made like that (single plane) as they thought the dual plane and current style air cleaner would be too tall for the hood line, not because it performed better.Read that somewhere.
