Dare I Post My New Wheel Setup?

-
I like it - but I would have preferred Anthracite color to black for the centers.

It was the only option I had from Summit. I was getting tired of distributors or waiting for a manufacturer to drop ship it. I just happened to find these and they were in stock so I pulled the trigger. I'm happy with them, but I was worried if white, silver, black, and some red would be too much.

I'm building a 1971 Duster and I've been following your post and I can say that the selection of wheels and tires are extremely frustrating. I've been having the same questions and concerns as you have. I’ll also be running 13” rotors up front with a HydroBoost master cylinder and have already purchased the Dr Diff 11.7” rear disc kit and 1/2" offset spring hangers and shackles for my 68-70 B-Body rear-ends. I’ll also be rolling the lips on the quarters and tops of the front fenders.

I remember not too long ago how I was emphatic about not running “Steamrollers” on this car as my original plan was a 225/60-16 on black steelies with poverty caps! Trouble was all the maximum performance summer tires have moved into the 17” + diameter wheels and 17’s wider than 8” may hit the suspension and still require a 11.95” maximum sized rotor! Since I want to do it all in this car, drag, autocross road race and Big Bend Open Road Race in west Texas next spring, probably in the Street Rod 95Mph class with my wife a copilot (That should be fun!) as well as drive the dang thing, I've decided to go with 18’s. I’m still not sure if this will work, but here is what I have narrowed the selection down too:

245/40-18x9 +30mm
275/35-18x10 +45mm

Rear tires look way to small for the opening. You should try a 45 or 50 series to fill in more of the gaps.

I like the style of the wheel though.

...I have narrowed the selection down too:
guess they don't allow hot linking to the wheels. links all go to the same page. are you looking for opinions on what looks good? can you post pics?

So you like this look? Ironically the tire is the same diameter, this is just a 17" wheel though. I don't think my wheel setup will look all too bad. The car should be a little more lowered than what I posted so it should hide a bit. Most people who use 18" wheels usually have a tire that's about 1/4" shorter than mine.

I like the wheels, not so much the spacers.

I agree with you 100%, but this was the only wheel setup I could find that allowed me to use the smallest possible spacers. For a little bit, I was even contemplating running two different style wheels front and back; however, this option was about $500 cheaper.

Taller tires or 18" wheels and tires would look better.....that and blacking out the wheel wells.
Try 255/45's or 255/50's. I run 255/45/18's on the back and they fill in the opening nicely.

The first set of wheels looks better IMO....I have seen enough of those mustang looking wheels to last a lifetime.

Remember this though.....it's your car and my opinion so they may not go well together. :D

Keep up the good work!

Don't forget that anything painted or powder coated can be painted a different color as well.

I painted the powder coated dull grey finish (first pic) with Mopar dark textured argent on Pam's car and painted the grill and tail panel to match for a sano look.

I know it's towards the end, but I'm throwing in the towel. I've got the wheels on the car and put the car on the ground. Definitely an awesome moment and all I could think was how bad @$$ it was. Well, next weekend, I'm going to be sending the car over to my mechanics. I'm going to have them redo a couple brake lines, do some regular maintenance, set its alignment, and weld in the sway bars and subframe connectors.

Hopefully it will be done sometime before April and I'll be able to take it to the Hotchkis Autocross and/or Spring Fling.

One thing I was upset about was that one side sits higher than the other. Whenever I fiddled with the passenger side adjuster the ride height changed. No matter how much I tightened or loosened the driver side torsion bar adjuster the ride height stayed the same so now my car has a little gangster lean to it. The whole driver side is taller than the passenger side. Overall, I like the ride height of the passenger side.

Also, it looks like there may be some interference with the top passenger quarter panel brace. I don't have that problem with the driver's side because the brace tore off sometime in its lifetime... No, seriously, the mounting points are gone, sheared.

Due to the wheels, the GT trim is starting to grow on me. I really don't know why, but not too long ago I wanted to throw it all out. Now I wish I kind of had the driver's door trim and all the trim was in better condition.

So here are some pictures... I edited on my phone, increasing the brightness and adding a filter to see more of the details. That's why there's an interesting hue to it.

1. Driver's Side
2. Passenger Side
3. Driver's Front
4. Driver's Rear
5. Passenger Front
6. Passenger Rear

I was being stupid and I kept tightening the front torsion bar adjuster. I loosened it quite a bit and now ride height is pretty decent.

Looks good....now go smoke the back tires down to the cords, get the next taller size when they blow and it will be perfect. :D

I also like that style of wheel mine are 17" Showwheels
