I have done a couple things, not to much though because my front servo is a pain in my ***. I have a pre 71 904 which means my servo is the smaller diameter one and the 2nd spring is a pain in the butt to find.

There was a 71+ spring in there already but it didnt line up very well so I bent the bottom retention spring in a little to get it to fit better in case the transmission store doesn't have one.

I also finished my TF2 install on the valve body. Only had to drill 2 extra parts, install new springs and install new manual valve in the VB.

I pulled out my drivers seat and now I'm trying to figure out how to cut the floor for the console shifter. I know where to cut but I dont have a sawzall only a cutting wheel/grinder. Also I have to get ahold of a welder, maybe my buddy will let me borrow his again the one he has never used ha.

I have one that you could use....just take me a day or two to find it....lol

been awhile since i used it...dont even know which garage it is in

Hughes 27-20. Supposedly about 2k stall, but will depend on actual combo of course.. I bought it to lower my stall speed since my car came with a super loose 3800 stall converter and an anemic and worn out 318 so it sucked to drive.

Anyhow, I'll see if I can find out what shipping this beast would run. I'll PM you with some details later. But if you find something affordable with more stall I'd go for that. This one is probably pretty close to stock, but will work if something better doesn't show up.
An 11" converter will fit in a $21 priority box.

It's ok pops unless they grow on trees? :poke::p:D I'll go get one in the morning as it's not to expensive and I'm sure there will be other things I could use it on in the future. I'll also be right down the street from HF when I go to the trans store in the morning.

@Phreakish and @RAT ROD AL I do appreciate both of you jumping to my aid the other day about converters when my transmission took a dump. I think both of you have seen I got mine rebuilt. It was a couple dollars more than yours but it let's me reuse mine and let's both of you be able to help the next poor sap in need.

No problem! You got a better result than what my spare would have given you and that's what matters.

Now just get that spring figured out ;)

I never installed a vinyl top before, you made it look easy, nice car.

Thanks! The whole car is a new learning experience for me!

That was my first time as well, it actually looks pretty good except for the couple of spots I tried to fix and now they are worse and need fixed again Haha.

I have one of these and for some reason it just doesn't work well. IE: try to cut and it just stops, sort of binds up and hisses. I start on an angle to get more tooth contact with metal and ease into cut then about 2 seconds it just stops and hisses, like WTF!!! Running 90 psi and fine tooth blade. I tried using it and just got frustrated so put it in tool box and there it sits...

Yep, another fine example of the quality you get at HF. I had to keep oiling mine and sometimes had to manually start it by moving the blade with the trigger pulled!! It's in a box on the shelf until the next time I drag it out.

I got the correct spring today, borrowed the welder, and decided to get a hole saw to cut the spot for the shifter. The hole saw just overheats the drill so I can only do a little at a time. It's about 1/3 - 1/2 cut through the sheet metal right now.

@70aarcuda came by and we got everything internally buttoned up. Air tested the clutch packs and they functioned properly. I'm going to install the VB here in a bit and we will put the converter and pan on tomorrow. Then I'll install the trans and let her rip!

Harbor freight hole saws suck. Ended up finishing the hole up with a hand cutter :BangHead: luckily it wasnt to bad with the tiny tin snippers

Cutting metal requires lube. Try your nipple balm

But seriously, some cutting oil would have gone a long way to helping the saw live through the hole. I've had good luck with bi metal saws, and even then they can burn up if you run em dry..

Oh well that would have been good to know before I cut the hole lol. It's a perfect cut for my purposes at lease :)

Any special advice or lubes needed for welding metal? I havent welded since I was 16 and I wasnt very good then. All I remember is... go in little circles and dont go to fast, or to slow, and dont get to close haha. **** it I'm a pro.

Doc I’m enjoying your posts and it’s good your getting in to it . Just take your time run a file around that hole so you don’t end up cutting your fingers. Slow and steady wins the race ! Question you running the console or going aftermarket. Shifter as you will need some bracing on that tunnel to mount the console . There was some one on here who had a template to get the right measurements. Cheers your doing great.

no welding lube unless you start a fire.

have the hose or a fire extinguisher at the ready

I'm going to run a stock console shifter. I have all the mounting brackets and correct linkage rods to get it set up.

Edit- I'm missing 1 bracket, the front U bracket. I think I can figure something out for that one though.

Trans is all bolted together. I used the hand file and cleaned up the hole I cut a to make it a little less rough. Sanded on the torque shaft and bolted that down. Took the top off the center console so I could try to line up where the brackets go and sand down in those spots. Its rough for now but tomorrow I'll sand me for a second and weld them in when I have the shifter back.

Tonight I'll try and throw that transmission back in when the wife and kids go to bed. That way Tony can take her for the inaugural spin tomorrow.
