Dartin for Divorce

you can take them to a real auto parts store, (one that actually turns rotors), and have them measure them. but i'd just throw them in the vinegar bath and run em'.

I measured them. Pretty much 1in thick from the outer edges .

I would buy a set of shock plates from a salvage yard before I drilled the 7 1/4 plates. They're pretty commonly used in truck and vans, etc. There's even some brand new ones on ePay if you decide to go that route. Also, I'd buy new U bolts to go with them. Don't cheap out on the pieces that keep your rear end in place. You can buy a tubing bender and flaring kit at the auto parts store and fab your own brake lines. It's not that tough. You can do it!

Sounds good!

I'm also thinking maybe I should do some new shocks. Saw the Bilstein shocks but I'll probably get the KYB gas shocks, 120 with free 1 day shipping for all 4 on the Amazon.

Dang the dart turns into pretty much a whole new car

Here's a cool car u snapped a pic of a couple weeks ago .

Do your research here before buying. Allot of people say that the KYB ride pretty firm (read uncomfortable) for a weekend style cruiser. Some of us cheap skates are getting by just fine using the Monroe Gasmatics that you can buy at any auto parts store.

Yeah I've read good and bad with KYB, only have read good on the Vikings and the Blisteins but they are to rich for my cheapness.

I looked at the Monroe matic plus shocks but I thought I had read that those were way soft? I'm sure anything really will be better than my currents.

i've always been happy with KYB's on a basically stock car, but i don't really "cruise" when i drive. the monroes would be fine too though

I had KYB all around on my last build, drove like it was on rails literally. I put Monroe gasmatics on the Barracuda last month and I am happy with them. I do have to put new TB's in soon as well.

The last set of Monroe’s I had did not last 6 months, they were leaking, replaced them with kyb’s and no issues.

Sounds good!

Cheaper at rockauto

Maybe I'll be able to order and get the tires mounted on em next week!

I'll try and pull the front end parts out tomorrow and clean/ paint those.

Axle shafts will be here next week as well.

Love them black fifth ave steelies. Get yourself a 2002 lincoln town car aluminum rimmed donut spare for the trunk. Its same BBP as those steelies, and will lay flat in the trunk well.

The purple one is the spare. When we repaint it one day we will go more purple to match that wheel and do them all that sparkle color .

Before you blow off using the 2002 town car donut spare, hear me out. I have one of those 15x6 steelies like your light purple one. Got it from my boneyard to use as a spare thinking the same thing as you. Damn thing sits so high in the spare tire well without even a tire mounted on it, that you cannot mount the spare tire cover board and put the trunk mat down and have it all lie flat. The original standard wheels on these cars were a SBP 14"x5" rim. With the rubber sidewall bulge, that put em at a width of 5&1/2" at the sidewall bulge.

The 2002 town car donut spare is the same bolt pattern as the mopar big bolt pattern, will clear the disc brakes, is an aluminum rim for light weight, and fits perfectly flat in the spare well. This will allow the spare tire cover board and trunk mat to sit flat against the trunk floor. The town car temp spare measures 25" in tire diameter, and 5&1/2" in width at the sidewall bulge. I bought 2 of em out of my local boneyard. One for each barracuda. They ran me $10 each and neither was ever mounted on the car. Both had brand new tread on them. The 25" diameter would correspond with a 225/60R15 which is also 25" diameter.

Yea I've seen the threads with the skinny spare and laying flat in the trunk. I don't have a trunk mat plus I come from Jeeps so I was thinking of building a swing away tire carrier mounting it around the rear pannels?:popcorn:

Maybe I'll go find one a day when I'm bored and want to go to the junkyard.

Painted my wheels a finishing coat of gloss black and sprayed 1 coat enamel on them. Also let the kids paint the calipers.

If you decide on a trunk mat, and want to cut out your own spare tire board, definitely cheaper that the oversized shipping on a repop, let me know. I can send you a pen tracing on some Kraft paper to make your own with a jig saw and some masonite board, or thin luan plywood.

That would be awesome. Maybe after I'm done with the current projects so I don't get side tracked and it gives the wife some time to forget I just did a bunch of car stuff

Wheels all got another coat and then clear sealer, but one of the wheels was super weird, had a bunch of micro pattern all over it, and I have no clue why. It was the clear coat sealer that did it, I sanded with 2k grit then sprayed another coat of black and I'm going to spray the sealer again .

I used a gloss black too, then went over it with a top coat of a sealer. Helped the black pop a little more.

I think it was the nozzle on that can of black. I grabbed a fresh can and it sprayed on nice. Sealing it again right now.

Orielly rents the flare tool and bender for like 30 bucks, or you can buy out right. As for brake lines, I went online, got 25 ft for less than 30 bucks. Came with a ton of various sized fittings.

3rd member cleaned and I checked my axles. Correct spline count just to long and need the bearings pressed on. I'm going to cut them myself and see what happens, measure 3x and cut 1x right?! For getting the bearings pressed on its 60 bucks, and for getting my driveshaft shortened it's 200 or 300 for a completely new one....

I also got shock plates with U-bolts from an awesome member on FABO. I got 1 more think but that's a surprise for later!

Oh yeah, my wife is mad at all the parts that keep showing up so I'm probably going to list my manifolds to make her happy, my rallye wheels, and the other set of steel wheels with caps.
