Dash Reverse Light

I have question related to this. Was the dash reverse light an option? because I my '72 Duster does not have one but a '75 Scamp parts car does.

From the cars I have seen they come with 4spds only. I have two 1970 340 Dusters with manual transmissions. The 3spd manual does not have one and the 4spd car has one. And for sure not automatics.
 
That's what I heard was only 4 speeds had them But what year did they start putting then in them...I parted out a 64 Dart 4 speed and it didn't have the light, but my 68 Charger R/T did. I wished the 64 did as I would of put it into my 66 Dart when I put he 4 speed set up out of the 64 in it
 
That would explain it, the Duster is a 3 speed car and the Scamp is a 4 speed.

I'm gonna throw you guys a curveball. Both '68 Barracudas I've owned were factory 340 4-speed cars, yet neither had the dash mounted reverse light. Whats up with that? Must have been an option. I'm thinking of adding it to ours, but am not sure of proper location. Anybody??
 
Reverse light is circled with arrow pointing to it.
