Thats right folks an Ovalport 440 head for the masses...
Much thicker flanges with the extra cooling passages for the spark-plus cooling, not seen again till 1978-79.

Shame the 'powers to be' liked the rectangle port 906's so much...
You don't 426-440 wedge pistons like this anymore lol...

Destroked 426-440 crankshaft with 4.320 bore pistons.
Much better breathing than the smaller 4.250, 426ci bores.

I‘ve seen some of these pictures before.

Sadly, they didn’t address the horrible spark plug location. And IIRC they still didn’t have enough cross section to make any power.

The BBM is a big block that’s been choked with small block heads.

IMO, anything over 400 inches should have a B1 head on it to make power. And that head is at least 37 years old.

Yep thats a fact, smallblock heads are much better than Bigblock heads but Mother Mopar didn't care, she had the HEMI!
Strange thing is though I have marched past many a 426ci hemi in the 1320 with a 906 head or two lol...

The folks who drive 'em are too precious to give 'em 7000rpms.
When you bust a 440 iron motor its a £5000 wallet denter.

When you bust a 426 hemi its a re-mortgage and a divorce...(if you are lucky)...
Been there done that!
