It sounds pretty cheap, if everything checks out good I'd buy it.

I think it's a pretty decent deal but seems a little high. Any confirmation on the motor size? Here are some initial thoughts. The low mileage is definitely a plus. Used trucks in the state of TX seems to sell a little lower than many other areas of the US (probably due to the sheer number of them on the road there). It's a standard cab and those sell (new or used) for quite a bit less than club/quad cab models. I think that V8s still sell for just a bit more than the V6 models but as a daily driver, I may just want to go with the 6 myself. What other features/options does it have (ex. AC, premium stereo, etc.)?

Id say its a pretty good deal with a 6 cylinder in it Pete. I will give you a little warning about an 8 yr old low mileage car though. Bought something very similar a few years back and one day I notice a dark stripe in the pavement in my rear view mirror. The tranny seal had blown out. The car went from mostly sitting to suddenly being driven everyday and the old dried out seals couldnt handle it. Wasnt a major expense doing the work myself (replaced all major seals and gaskets just to be safe). Just thought that I would mention it for you to look out for. Good luck and let us know if you get it!

It looks like a 4 banger to me which you might find to be underpowered. What do similar trucks on ebay bring?

Did Dakotas even come with 4-bangers? I thought they were all V6 or 4.7/5.9 models?

If it's a 3.9L, I think it's a good deal.

The Dakota came with a 2.5L, four banger.

Do you have, or have access to, the VIN? The eighth digit is the engine size.

P = 2.5L
X = 3.9L
N = 4.7L
Z = 5.9L

Even with a four, it would make a nice DD, as long as you're not looking to haul anything of any weight. My DD is a '95 Mazda B2300, it's fine for driving around, but I wouldn't want to put much in it.

I had a club cab 1999 Dakota with a V6. My friend with a '98 with a V8 got around a half mile less her gallon. It always seemed like the Dakota was laboring, not quite the correct word, to maintain 65 on the freeway. I blamed it on the lower power of the V6, aerodynamics of a brick and weight. Overall, I can't complain, it towed my tent trailer into the High Sierra's without much of a problem and I could maintain 55 on that killer climb out of Bishop Ca. Don't know howmany Caravan's and Windstars I passed like they were sitting still.

I'm just trying to say don't let a perceived savings in gas dictate the V6, you wont be saving much. I thought I would when I bought the truck...should've plunked down the extra couple of hundred for the V8 option.

If you pick it up, the reg. cab looks killer with the wide factory mags and big tires. It looks a lot better than the club cab with the same setup. Let us know what you find.
Disclaimer, I have a '99 club cab with a V6. I think it's underpowered although it has never let me down and I have used it like a truck on many occasions. My son has a '98 club cab, V6; same-same. The '98 will run rings around my '99 for whatever reason...
While I love the styling and looks of this gen Dakota, it may very well be my last American, or at least Dodge, pickup. It has never let me down but it has lots of little things that irritate the hell out of me. Hopefully, by 2001 they fixed "some" of these things, but I bet not.

Would most likely have the V-6 fender badging if 3.9 six cylinder. They are decent trucks but you don't want one with the four. Looks like a nice clean truck but seems overpriced a touch even with the low mileage. Paid less than that for my 98 R/T with 64,000 miles and new paint but I did have to put pinion bearings in her.

I've had a lot of pickups in my life, and I would never own another standard regular cab again. The extra room of club cab/extended cab makes so much difference even if you don't have extra passengers. Good luck in your search.

go to www.kbb.com and put in the info and it will give you approx what the vehicle is worth. I put the numbers in here and came up with about half what the guy is asking, which you could use in your negotiations.

I had a 2000 Durango with a 5.9, make sure you check the heating/a/c system (s/b the same for all engines). Dakotas/Durangos have a lot of heater core problems, never got real hot air coming out the ducts. I know other people that had the same problem, tried different thermostats and every other trick in book. Check the dakota web site dodgedakotas.com, get some input there.

I hate a windshield defroster that don't defrost! then again I live in Chicago.
