Demon 340 vs Camaro 396 (400)

Yes, there are two classes under the FAST umbrella.

FAST, which is the outer appearance has to be stock, they run the repo bias ply tire, but almost anything goes internally.

Factory Stock, has very strict rules. They run the repo bias ply tire Almost as strict as the Pure Stock Muscle Car Drags. They might be identical rules, not sure, but very similar.

The confusion is understandable, by definition you should NOT be able to tell the difference between the classes just by looking at the cars.

the only way is FAST car’s number starts with F. Mine is F3400.
Factory stock I think start with S or FS, however the class is like herding cats and some guys forget to put the F in front on the number. Me being one of them.

This discussion just proves beyond a shadow of a doubt just WHY the little 340 A bodies were a mythical force during the original muscle car wars. They were small and light enough that they were really TOUGH to come around. They packed plenty of power, but weren't over powered to the point that they could not get traction like some of the brand X stuff with bigger engines. They were just the perfect package all the way around.

GM also really only put sticks behind most of their top tier performance options. At least that is what my GM friends whine ALL THE TIME!!! :):):)

Very true, but there are a bunch 11.49 and slower cars in FAST. In fact, my guess is there are more cars slower than 11.49 than quicker. Maybe equal?

In 1970 I had a SS454 with 450 Factory Rated HP with an automatic (Turbo 400)
In those days it was one of the highest HP rated cars ever built then by anyone from
the factory!

It would run right with my Dad's 440/6 Cuda all day long like they were
welded together!

A local guy had one, auto too, medium green with black interior, black vinyl roof and black stripes. His brother bought it new. I did everything but beg him to run my 71 Road Runner with a 440.......I mean 383, LOL. As far as I know he never raced anyone with it, very nice car that still had the factory wheels on it in the early 80's.

My buddy had a 375hp 396 chevelle with 4.10 gears. Still one of the fastest bone stock cars I've ever ridin in. 4 speed car and he could drive.
