With each cylinder, I did exactly what you describe, I just passed the air through my leakdown
Tester. I only heard air from crankcase.

A small amount would be normal, as rings do not seal 100%. I would inspect the valve springs VERY closely at this point. You may even find a broken one. That will not show up on a leak down test, as the pressure would keep the valve closed.
