I have what i thought was a 318/340 pan and the front and rear measurements are 2 7/8 on the front which obviously goes over the timing cover and 2 1/4 on the rear. Does anyone have any measurement differences between the two? Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jake

The rear pan seal at the main cap.
360 takes the skinny seal that sits in the groove of the main cap while the 318/40 uses the same as the front seal all LA's use.

318 & 340 cars use the same oil in any given model year.

360 pan it different.

What number is stamped into the bottom of the pan?

It’s an aftermarket milodon stock replacement pan, no part numbers but I sold it as a 318/340 and now I’m questioning if that’s really it.

Smaller and thinner rear seal rail

So the pan height from the top of the rail to the bottom of the seal are the same on both pans?

It's very easy. The half moon cutouts for a 273/318/340 pan are nearly the same size or maybe THE same size. The rear cutout is considerably smaller than the front on a 360.

This is LA engine, only. Magnums work different. On Magnums, 318/360 both use same pan. I cannot remember if mag pans are actually different than LA, or whether it's in the mag gasket.
