Hello again, I was wondering what would be the Difference between a Vacuum Distributor & a Non vacuum Distributor?

Reason I ask is because I am trying to convert my "Point type" Slant Six to an "Electric Ignition" distributor. trying to get things + parts together because spring should be coming around the corner and all. any input will help me.

A vacuum distributor has the big vacuum pod sticking off of it. If you are using a street slant 6, i would recommend going with the vacuum slant 6 distributor. It varies the vacuum advance based on engine load.

There were no /6s made with a "non vacuum" advance distributor, unless it was lean burn or some weird thing. Normally, the only "non" vacuum advance dist.s you'll find are sold in the aftermarket, like Mallory, Acell, etc.

I'm speaking of course about PASSENGER cars

There may well have been some slants used in industrial or marine applications that had "non vaccum" distributors.

Yes it is going to be a street Slant six with a two barrel and headers.

I never seen a non vacuum distributor on a slant six nether but when you look at autozone website it gives you the opinion of choosing Vacuum or not. Didn't want to make a mistake and buy the wrong one.

Vacuum distributor it is then.

You have several choices in going electronic. The most expensive path is the Mopar Performance system, which is essentially the factory system from the late 70's. It is very high priced (>$200). It still needs the ballast resistor since out-dated. You can keep your points distributor and add the Pertronix Ignitor or Crane XR700. The Ignitor II or III is best. The Ignitor I and XR700 still require a ballast resistor since older electronics. Cheapest and probably best performance is a factory electronic distributor (~$15 used) to trigger a GM HEI module and E-core coil. That is what I put in my Slant. I am using the 8-pin HEI module, but FABO posts have photos of the 4-pin HEI.

Yup. I run a breakerless "factory look alike" distro and HEI, no ballast, stock coil. Works great. They're small, inexpensive, you can afford to throw a spare in the toolbox

I think for now I'll go with a Mopar set up , just to get this car going. I need to update everything from the car anyways. I wonder if Im missing something. :?:

I did read "Slant Six Dan" HEI how-to on slant six.org looks very easy and I might go with it in the near future maybe sooner to see the difference :D
