dipstick length??

Can someone tell me how far a dipstick should stick down in the trans pan on a 727/518?

The dipstick on my 518 is barely longer than the dipstick tube. Is this normal?

That sound about right. When the trans is full the level is higher than the dip stick tube hole in the case.
