Last week I was over a buddy's house helping him disassemble his 18 spline A-body 4-speed in order to send out the gears to Liberty to be faceplated.
He owns a 1969 GTS that he bought from another friend of mine's estate a few years back. The Dart was originally a 383 4-speed, but was turned into a drag car back in the mid 70s. It was then parked in the mid 80's until 2014 when it was sold to its now current owner.
We had pulled the side cover off the trany in January and found out that it had been set up with "Pro Shift" gears.
The next surprised was when we fully disassembled it last week and found what we believe to be "Herb" McCandless's name engraved on several of the internal parts.
I had heard in the past that the car had been sent down to McCandless's shop in the 70's to have him set up the suspension and do "other work", but I really never knew if there was any truth to the story. So I guess now that it actually maybe true.
