Hello, I just bought my first Mopar (65 barracuda) what year disc brakes set up is a bolt on? Ive got access to a 69 dart looks like it may fit?
Actually on the small bolt pattern brakes, the rotors, calipers, and pads are pretty inexpensive....bearings are the same as the 10" drum......about the only thing expensive are the spindles if you needed to buy just one.If you want to keep your small bolt pattern wheels (5 on 4"), the '69 parts are a direct bolt on. Make sure you grab everything between the upper ball joint and the lower control arm, including the lower ball joint. Parts for this setup are getting hard to find and pricey though. These are known as the Kelsey-Hayes discs and were used on A bodies from '65-'72. '73-'76 A body disc brakes are also a bolt on if you get the upper control arms along with the brakes/spindles and upper/lower ball joints. You can also use the brakes/spindles from a '76 up F,M,J body (Aspen/Volare, 5th Avenue/Diplomat) with '73-'76 A body upper control arms and upper/lower ball joints. These brakes are large bolt pattern (5 on 4.5") and will need wheels with the proper bolt circle. The calipers, rotors, and pads are much easier to find and much cheaper to buy. Either setup will also require a dual master cylinder and a proportioning valve. The brakes on my '66 Valiant came off a '75 Duster. Hope this helps.
