Ditch power steering?

Not horrible but ill take a nice stage 2 or 3 box over manual every day of the week and twice on Sunday. ?

Years ago I preferred manual. Until I found out about the stage 2&3 box.

Guess it all depends what you are doing with the car too. Make the motor build a little more power. Then you don't have to worry about running power steering.

I had manual steering on my 66 D200 truck. It was alittlre inconvenient when parking, That was when I was in my fifties. I'm now 71 and have Firm Feel level 2 power steering in my Barracuda When I had manual steering it felt like I had to make 2 revolution to change lanes. I have no AC but would put in a rotary compressor if I did have it. Rotary does not stick up like a V twin compressor. If you just beat someone, they will hate it thatyou hav AC and PS. People thinks it great that I have PS and 3.23's running in the mid to low 12's.

I don't know what the flaming river stuff feels like but stock power steering feels like you're driving on ice. There's absolutely no feel for the road. You can pretty much drive anywhere with one finger.

I'll always use manual steering. My only gripe about it is parking but I'll take that over the unsafe feeling the stock power steering gives you.

It's just over assisted. Put a stage 2 or 3 in or even the mod one of the magazines did and you will have the best of both worlds.

Get a flaming river 16:1 manual box. No extra long pitman or idler arms that won't clear headers, same ratio as the power steering boxes so no extra turns in the wheel. Skip the parallel parking, waking a bit is good for you anyway.

I was going to attempt the mod the magazine called for a long time ago but my car had a different brand pump in it. Can't remember the name but it wouldn't have worked for that.

I've never owned a Mopar that had power steering....Just always used the torque of the engine to help out with the steering when needed.

im a little late with this, but when we would build roundy rounders, we would use a power stearing box and no pump. we would put as much fluid in the lines as we could get, and loop the lines together. when you have power stearing and the pump is not pumping, its harder to stear then manual stearing, but looping the lines makes it act like a normal manual stearing box. granted we never streeted the cars so not sure of the effect at 80 like we drive here in cali...lol

Firm feel stage 2 box and poly bushings all around is best thing I ever put on the car . Steering is more precise takes a bit more effort , but no more loosey goosy steering car goes where you point it with no play in the wheel . Worth the few HP you'll lose .
