I'm thinking of buying a new Avenger since they have 0% financing right now, I will be closing on a new house in 3 weeks that's 30 miles from work, and I need something that gets good gas mileage which is also very dependable to get me to my new job.

I've never owned a new car before, but I figure if I can get 0% financing on a new one it would be better than buying a used one with a higher interest rate. I figure that the depreciation on a new car will equal out to what I would waste on interest over the life of the loan on a used car.

I've been reading reviews, which appear to be mixed. Do any of you own a recent model and are you happy with it?

I do not own one, however I did drive a friends. I honestly felt like it was a Charger want-to-be. The overall performance and handling did not impress me enough to want to save the $ and go with an Avenger over a Charger.

Which engine are you looking at? You can get the same incentives on both the Avenger and the Charger and the extra 4 mpg ( if you are goin 2.7 Avenger vs. 3.5 Charger ) don't really seem worth it to me, but that is just my opion...

I could honestly say that, if I were looking for a 4 door commuter I'd either go with the Intrepid ( not the 2.7 unless they have already rebuilt it) or a nice older slant six 4 door dart. I had a 3.2 Intrepid that I could get 28-20 MPG highway in, and they are nice cars. It would also be pretty sweet if you had a nice 4 door dart as your daily driver...

Just my 2 cents though...

I have a 2008 Avenger with the 2.4 in it. Thats the only one that will get you GREAT fuel mileage. The other motors offered... get ok mileage, but nothing great. I average 29 mpg in town and on the road it averages.... above what they even say....37 mpg. Now..for whatever reason I have compared it with other Avengers of same make and model that only get 33 mpg on the road. I have checked it several times and its pretty consistant with 37. So either I got a lucky one or ????

The car itself rides somewhat rough and has road noise. It is not a luxary car. Fit and finish is hit and miss on them from what I have seen. (I work at a Dodge Dealership) The only ones that seem to be in the shop most often are the R/T models. For many various reasons. The only problem I have had so far is electric window adjustments. Seems every window has needed adjusted. Interior has plenty of room for a mid-smaller car. The 4 banger is pretty gutless, but makes up for it in fuel.

Overall... not bad, but definately a cheaper car. Not near as bad as some of the products they unleashed a couple years ago though (Caliber). I definately think its more solid then a PT Cruiser too.

Mine came with probably the nicest factory stereo system I have heard in a long time. Which is odd... but I put it up against a New high end Mercedes and mine sounded better.

So for what its worth.. there is my review. I can tell you a bit about most the Dodge lineup if you want you can send me a p.m. with questions.

We got good service out of our intrepid. Something like 180K miles and 7 or 8 years hauling 1 then 2 kids. When it finally died I probably could have kept it alive with a new ECM or coil pack, but we really didn't need it and had outgrown it (3 kids are tight in anything without a third row). Anyway, we were happy with ours for what it was. We had the 3.2.
