Dodge or plymouth 1969 318

Just bought a 69 model 318 to put in my 69 barracuda and a friend told me there is a stamping on the side of the block that tells if it was from a dodge or plymouth vehicle.

on side of block..there is a VIN...Vehicle Id Number...

it will tell you what kind of car it came out of...

Usually the drivers side, right under the head??? Stamped into the flat machined spot?

Ok here are the numbers.
On the machined front side of engine PM318R 27512252
and on the side is 2536030 318-11

I tried the decoder and must be doing something wrong.

What you provided is a casting number, not decodable by the VIN tool. I'll look at a couple small block motors in the garage tonight, but I do know right off the top of my head that my 1969 Coronet RT has the entire VIN (WS23L9xxxxxxxx) cast right into the block just below the cylinder head on pass side - and the 727 auto trans has the matching VIN cast right on the boss, also as seen on the passenger side. Not sure if the small block cars have the same, but thought they were.

On my 73, the vin is stamped on the right side at the bottom of the block on the oil pan rail.

Follow up on previous message: on my 69 barracuda's 360 (from some 1976 car or truck), there is a boss for VIN number immediately above the oil pan surface, and just below the date stamp. For VIN decoding purposes, typical mopar VINs from 69 would start with V (valiant), L (dart), B (barracuda), R (sattelite), W (coronet, charger). Hope this helps.

I'll look some more in the morning.I'll check the trans for #'s as well.
The motor is in need of a good cleaning ,so under the old crudd I hope to find more
info.

This is the number I found on the side above oil pan.

9B would be a truck, if thats the vehicle VIN............. I think?
